The full term for ICU is the Intensive Care Unit. It is a special hospital department that provides patients suffering from severe accident or disease with critically-needed medications and intensive care. Patients suffering from the most serious as well as life-threatening illnesses or injuries that require continuous and constant surveillance by a team comprised of nurses and specialists are treated in intensive care units. The ICU team is trained in caring for patients that are seriously ill or badly injured. It is also a place for patients who are seriously injured or sick. ICU is also recognized for its role as CCU (Critical Care Unit) or ITU (Intensive Treatment Unit).

ICU: Intensive Care Unit
ICU refers to the Intensive Care Unit. It is an exclusive department within a hospital which provides the most intensive medical care as well as life support for patients who are suffering from an injury or illness. The units that provide intensive care care take care of the patients who suffer from the most serious and life-threatening injury or illness which require constantand closely monitored by a team of specialized doctors and nurses. This team is trained in the treatment of seriously wounded or seriously ill patients. Patients may be transferred directly to ICU in an ambulance department should they require it. It is usually done if the condition of the patient is constantly declining.
ICU is equipped with different medical equipments, some which include:
